Comment:As Jonathan CONREY’S deed is without his wife’s participation, suggests Jonathan was then not married.A dower release would very probably have been required if Jonathan were then married.

Recorded for and at the request of Edward MEEKS this 1st day of May 1799 [sic].This indenture made the tenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty [sic] nine between JONATHAN CONREY of the City of New York Cartman
[Comment:So Jonathan a cartman before a grocer.] of the one part and Priscilla SCHOTLER of said City Widow of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Jonathan CONREY for and in consideration of one hundred Pounds lawful money of the State of New York to him to him in hand paid and before this ensealing... doth give, grant, bargain sell, remise, release, en____ss and confirm unto her the said Priscilla SCHOTLER (in her actual possession now being by virtue of a Bargain Sale and Lease for one year to her thereof made by him the said Jonathan CONREY by Indenture bearing date the day now before the day of the date of these presents) and by force of the Statute made for hand___ Use_ into Possession and to her heirs and assigns forever, all that certain Lot of Ground situate lying and being in Montgomery Ward in the City of New York being a part of a lot which Thomas WILSON purchased on the sixteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty six from Abraham B____ Esq of Staten Island ... Recorded for and at the request of Mr Edward MEEKS this 18th day of May 1799 This Indenture made the thirteenth day of November One thousand seven hundred eighty nine Between Priscilla SCHOTLER Widow and Relict of Garret SCHOTLER, late of the City of New York Painter deceased of the one part, and Edward Meeks Blacksmith and Joseph Meeks Cordwainer [shoemaker] both of said City of New York (Trustees appointed by the said Priscilla SCHOTLER for the uses intents and purposes herein after mentioned) of the other part.Witnesseth that the said Priscilla SCHOTLER for divers good consideration her thereunto especially moving and also for and in consideration of the Sum of ten shillings current money of the State of New York to her in hand well and fully paid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents by the parties unto of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby fully acknowledged ... doth grant, bargain, sell, release, convey and confirm unto them the said parties of the second part ...
