Re: Trying to trace relatives in NJ
Hi Eilene; I know we have spoken in the past but it has been some time ago. We established that we are directly related as my father was Pasquale A Conte. He came to the states with his two younger brothers, Antonio and Nunzio. We all lived within two blocks of one another on Sanford St and Bedford St., in East Orange right on the Newark line. To call it the " pits" today is being too kind! The father of the brothers, and the rest of the family, I believe ten or more in total, was Francesco, the Patriarch. They were a family of fisherman in MINTURNO, Italy, right on the Mediterranean Sea, perhaps tw entry five+ miles north of The Bay of Naples, the city itself and the great volcanoes of history-Mt. Vesuvius. Awesome!
I visited MINTURNO once around the year 2000, with my wife Candy and my two grade school age daughters Gioja and Alexandra. I have some interesting documents if you are interested. Birth and death certificates. Dates of their emigration, a real history dating back to 1811 before the town was fully established as such and record keeping began. These are HAND WRITTEN! Please get back to me, I'd love to talk about it, so much has happened. We have a very rich history and I would like to do my small share to preserve it's memory. God Bless!Vinnie
