Ephraim Thompson confusion - please help sort it out!
I am grasping at straws here. How accurate or complete are the marriage records for Tazewell County during 1865-1866 period?
I ask because I have a bit of a puzzle and some confusion...
Seeking the parents for Margaret Victoria Patterson who married Ephraim W. Thompson in 1866.That marriage I have and is on record. There is some confusion as to her birth date referenced on the certificate (20 years, 11 months) which would indicate a 1845 birth as opposed to a 1844 birth shown in census and in a family bible.
There seems to be another Ephraim W. Thompson who married a Martha Cook? at Thompson Valley, Tazewell County also in 1865-1867 period but haven't found that marriage yet.It is referenced in his obituary and questioned if this is our Ephraim though he is born 1844 (correct year) also in Tazewell. She was born 1841 in Jeffersonville.Possibly a second marriage that informants got the first marriage date mixed with or a completely different couple?
There is also another Ephraim W. Thompson married in 1865 to Martha Neel but their birth years don't match and they stayed in Virginia (mine moved to Iowa).
The puzzle is that as far as people have told me so far, there is only one Ephraim Thompson married in 1866 at Tazewell so where does this Martha Cook come in?We know that our Ephraim married a Patterson.
The parents for the Ephraim-Cook union are also different than mine unless I have the wrong link in my database, which is possible considering the different people with the same name.Yet, this couple shows to only have 2 children, neither match in my database (or census) and one born the same year as one in my family so can't be the same person.Plus, my Thompson is still in Iowa when the other was in Missouri.
So... is there another Thompson-Patterson union shown in the records lets say for 1867, or a similar soundex spelling in case someone transcribes something wrong?Does the 1866 year cover the entire year in Tazewell? Is there 1867 marriages listed somewhere?
Hope someone can help shed some light for me!
