Re: Samantha Cook m. Wm. H. W. Gurley of Union Co. GA
Thank you Sandra,
You have solved the mystery for me.She is not the one I am looking for unfortunately.
So I am back to square one.My Samantha was Cecelia Samantha Cook born 1845/1846 in Wilkinson County, GA to John and Martha Cook. They went to live in the City of Milledgeville and was there when the war began in 1861.Three of her brothers joined the Confederate Army and survived the war. The mystery begins during the war and after the war.My great grandfather William H. Cook came back to Milledgeville and found his family no longer there. His brothers Ben and Henry did the same. They went south and William went north taking his fathers tools with him.I have seen these tools when I was a teenager.
When the war was over the family, the parents, the daughter Samantha, and three of the younger boys had evaporated from the face of the earth.I believe one of the boys actually survived. His name was George according to family tradition. The daughter also may have survived but she has proven very elusive.Maybe some day.
