Roger Cooke of Bristol, 1594
William Pitt of Bristol, England, merchant, will dated 13 Mar 1622; proven 4 Feb 1624.He mentions wife Mary (Gibbs) and many of his children, including Robert Pitt of Virignia."I give my son William my best Turkey ring, which was my great grandfather’s, Mr. Roger Cookes. My second ring with pearl I give to son Robert. My signet ring I give my son Henry, and my ruby ring to my son Thomas."He is said in various accounts to have been a merchant with trade in Turkey, so I'm assuming the Turkey ring refers to a ring from that country.
It is the reference to Roger Cook(e) that interests me.At one time I thought I saw on the internet a chart showing a descent for William Pitt of Bristol from one Roger Cook(e), but now I can't find any such a chart.
At Googlebooks, I see that Colonial Families of Surry and Isle of Wight Counties, Virginia by John Anderson Brayton (2004), Page 14, refers to this and mentions a Roger Cook whose will is dated at Bristol 12 Dec 1597, but I don't have access to this book.
Does anyone know how William Pitt descended from Roger Cook and anything else about this Cook(e) family?
