ROBERT F. COOPER, “BOB COOPER” - school-master, printer, editor, lawyer and soldier – was born in this place, then Williamsport, on March 1st., 1830.His parents were JOHN and CHARITY COOPER, afterward MRS. CHARITY SHOUSE.He was educated at the academies of T. R. Hazzard and Rev. Blake, in this town, with a partial course at Washington College.He studied law with Wm. McKennan, Esq., was admitted to the bar in this county at May term, 1842, and forsome time had an office at the county seat...He accepted a position as Clerk in the State Senate at Harrisburg, about 1859, but resigned it on the breaking out of the war, to lead, as captain, a local company, (pg. 237) the “Monongahela Artillery,” into the 12th Pa. Regiment, for the three months' service.Some time after this term was ended, he again entered the army, and continued, serving in different capacities, until he was broken down by a disease incurred through the hardships of army service, and died at Fortress Monroe, December 31, 1864.He was married in 1847, to ELIZABETH BOYD, who, with a a number of his children, are still living in this his native place.
