James Cooper, Rebecca, England to NY ca 1860
Looking for any help locating James Cooper after he came to Brooklyn, NY upon arrival fromEngland. He was born between 1812 and 1825 possibly in Ipswich, Suffolk, England and married his wife Rebecca Smallpiece in 1846 at St. Giles Cripplegate, London. She was from Guildford, surrey. They are perhaps the family who appear in the 1851 census living in the parish of St. John Evangelist, Westminster, London, with a daughter Emily Jane age 1.I do not know what happened to Emily Jane.
When they came to Brooklyn, NY between 1851 and 1862, they may have had more children. Two I know of were born in Brooklyn---Frederick W. born 1865, and Jennie/Jane born 1862.
I cannot find them in American censuses from 1860 to 1880.I found Fred in 1890s Brooklyn Directories until his moved out west. And Jennie appears in Chicago in 1892 when she married. But where were they in Brooklyn and what happened to their father and mother? One story is that Rebecca died about 1880 and James remarried.
Can someone fill in the gaps? Thanks for any help.
