Re: Coppin from Colchester
Just came across the information that Mary Coppin was tried for witchcraft in 1645. Sentence "Lord's Pardon - to remain in gaol". The year 1645, Place Kirby le Soken ten miles from Colchester where my Samuel, GGgrandfather was from and had daughter Emmeline in 1834. The pilot of the Mayflower, Robert Coppin is said to have been from Harwich, 5 miles from Kirby-le -Soken. There must have been a widespread Coppin family in the area. There was also a Robert Copping of Woodham Ferrers 15 miles S.E. of Colchester tried in 1664 for witchcraft.Any other Coppin from there?
