Re: Ancestry of the Corbins of Madison Co., VA
Listed below are some further comments about John Corbin based on a review of census records:
1. There is no John Corbin listed as a head of household in Holmes Co., OH in the 1830 census, even though, per his Revolutionary war pension file, he was a resident of that county circa 1824-1832. In fact, there are no Corbins listed in the 1830 Holmes Co., OH census. There were some John Corbins listed in the 1830 Clermont Co., OH census.
2. Two of the witnesses who gave depositions in the John Corbin Revolutionary war pension file were Robt. Goldsburg/Goldsborough and Wesley Stafford. There were no persons named Stafford or Goldsburg/Goldsborough listed in the 1830 Holmes Co., OH census. The closest person that I could locate was a Robert Goldsbury, who was a resident of Belmont Co., OH in 1830.
3. The Fielding Smith listed in the 1830 Ohio census (Hamilton Co.) was too young to have been the husband of Elizabeth Corbin. There was a Fielding Smith and family listed in the Madison Co., VA census in 1830. This is likely the family that included Elizabeth Corbin. By 1840, this family no longer resided in Madison Co., VA, although, there was a young Fielding Smith, Jr. listed in the 1840 census in Madison Co., VA.
