Douglas,

I appriciate your "speculation" on the parents of Grace Smith and the potential relationships of William Smith, father of Elizabeth. We shared some e-mails in the past and you had previously provided some of the information in this thread.

I concur with your assessment that the Ballard connection is incorrect and your doubts about the links back to the Fauntleroy's for Elizabeth Smith. The connection to the Butler's is the most feasible theory extant, but unfortunately I can not add beyond what you've recently posted.

I regret to say that I was in part responsible for adding confusion regarding the links to Pheobe Fauntleroy. While I've found nothing to disprove it, it seems upon further study an unlikely devolution in the space of two generations from the wealth, education and influence of Moore Fauntleroy (Phoebe's brother) to the modest Corbin's of the late 1600's.The link is even more improbable given an appriciation of the role of social classes that was very strong in the British colonies at the time.

Thanks for taking the time to posting some details we can all work from.

John
