Willie and Emma Lou Corbitt - adopted out?

My g-grandfather's half sister, Dovie Clark Corbitt Ashton, had two children with her first husband Ed Corbitt.I am uncertain of Willie's birthdate - although I do know it was between 1903 and 1907.Emma Lou was born Nov. 8, 1908.Both children were born in Athens, Henderson Co., TX.Dovie and Ed divorced in early 1909.The story I've heard is that neither Ed or Dovie wanted the children, so they were adopted out to a preacher and his wife.However, the 1910 census has Dovie and her children living with her mother in Navarro Co., TX. This is where I lose track of Emma Lou and Willie...Dovie went on to have several more children with her second husband - Henry Ashton - but there is no more mention of the other two children.What I don't understand is that Dovie had a lot of family living in the area (7 grown siblings), so why would the children be given to strangers rather than other family members.If anyone has any information, please don't hesitate to contact me.Thanks.
