Re: Corbet/Corbitt/Corbit/ in Southern Illinois

My family tree includes a Samuel Corbitt that left North Carolina sometime after 1798 and showed up in Southern Illinois after 1800.He had a son named Philip Corbitt, b. 1798 in NC,who was the father of my Civil Corbitt.This is such an unusual name that it is quite likely we have a connection of some kind.Most people migrated from the Carolinas to Tennessee and then northward on the Cumberland River and Ohio.
