Looking for information on Martha Mary Bowes married Joseph Cordwell 18 May 1823 at the Old Church, St. Pancras, London, England.Martha Mary appears to be the daughter of Thomas and Jane Bowes and was christened 15 Feb 1801 Saint Mary, Battersea, London.
Martha and Joseph appear to have had 7 children:
Jane Cordwell Bet. 1823 - 1824 Lenas Charles Bowes Cordwell 1829 Joseph Field Cordwell Bet. 1830 - 1831 Martha Mary Cordwell 1833 David Joseph Cordwell 1834 Thomas Francis Cordwell 1837 Emma Sarah Cordwell 1844
David Joseph Cordwell joined the army in 1853 from Bettersea and went out to India. He married Mary Ann Whitworth 18 Oct 1860 in Calcutta (Ft. William), and had 2 children in Simla, Albert David 07 Jul 1863 and Minnie.Minnie died when she was about 2 and Mary Ann died 12 Jan 1871 when Albert was eight.David re-married (Charlotte Jupp) within about a year, retired from the army (achieved Sgt Major) and clerked for a while for the East India Company before moving back to the London area.Albert never got along with his stepmother and census records show him living with a doctor's family when he was still quite young.
Albert eventually married an upstairs maid, had a big fight with his father and left for Canada eventually settling in upstate New York.Because of the estrangement (made up in later years) there isn't much family information on the earlier Cordwells and finding out any information has been like pulling teeth. At any rate, does anyone know any information about the Cordwell bunch above?
