I have a small hard-cover book titled "The Cornett Family" by Essie R. Cornett. It states that the Cornett family of Grayson CO., Virginia origianlly spelled the name Canute. Also, pg. 15 "Among the descendents of Canute who were not driven out of Enlgland when his kingdom was dissolved were seven brothers who came to America in 1740......" and settled in Grayson CO. VA. I spotted the note from Mitch that said this theory is a "red herring".I'm not sure what a "red herring" is, but the Canute theory makes sense to me.
