JOHN COSGROVE John Cosgrove formerly of Palatine John Cosgrove, 52, a resident and beloved community member of Castro Valley, Calif., passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at home surrounded by his family, succumbing to pancreatic cancer after 3½ years. One of his passions was the great outdoors and hiking, while finding beautiful waterfalls. He loved his family, his job, and all the people with whom he worked, along with those he served. After several years in the electricity industry, John worked in the candy business with the Knudsens and later found his place at Knudsen's Ice Creamery in Castro Valley. John was raised in Palatine, and was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Iris Cosgrove. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Vicki; his son, Elliot; and his daughter, Taryn (Eduard) Sandulyak. He is also survived by his four brothers, who took such good care of him, and their families, Kevin (Connie) of Wheaton, Mike of Fort Lauderdale, Steve (Laura) of Wheaton and Pat (Jennifer) of Glen Allen, Va. He also leaves behind his loving in-laws, David and Kathy Knudsen, Jay and Sarah Knudsen, Tod and Carrie Knudsen, and Ty and Monica Knudsen. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Services will be held on Monday, July 19, at First Baptist Church of Castro Valley at 11a.m., followed by a reception for family and friends at Knudsen's Ice Creamery.
