Edith Veldora, who went by Dora, was my gggrandmother. My mother was actually born in Cortez and still has a lot of family up there (we don't know any named Coss), but we live a few hours away now.
Based mostly on census records (and a few tips from other researchers), I have the following names/dates for Andrew Coss and family:
Andrew Coss born Sussex Co. NJ 1825
Sarah Beemer born Sussex Co. NJ 1829
married Sept 26, 1848 in NJ
Avery B. Coss born 1850, died April 2, 1862 - buried Kizer Cemetery
Mary E.Coss buried next to Avery.I can not read the tombstone, but I think she lived from 1856 -1857.
Peter W. Coss born 1856
Edith Veldora Coss born 1858, married Henry Bloes Frisbie
Harriet Coss born 1861
R.M. Coss born 1864
Minnie Coss born 1872
They were living in Jefferson, Luzerne Co. on the 1850 and 1860 census, South Caanan on the 1870 census, and in Lake Ariel after that.
I believe Sarah Beemer was the daughter of Abram Beemer and Mary Decker.I recently found a lot of information on those families on the Sussex Co. NJ website (http://www.sussexcountyhistory.org) - I recommend exploring the genealogy section. On the 1880 census “Abram Bumes” and “Margaret Davis” are living with them and listed as Sarah’s father and Andrew’s mother.I do not trust this transcription because I’m pretty sure Bumes should be Beemer (and a few dates seem off), but I am curious about the woman listed as his mother ....
We should absolutely keep in touch about this.I hope to get to NJ to do some research within the next year, so hopefully I will have more to share. Also, we are actually not that distantly related, which is pretty neat.
