Thanks very much for your response. I do believe that the name Landroche originated in Europe somewhere. Where? I'm still uncertain, but I have seen similar spellings in Germany, Poland, and Denmark.

As for Cote... to say that the name didn't exist before 1635 is simply closing the door to the fact that it did exist before then. It's a very good possibility that the Cotes I speak of are realted to the Cotes of Quebec. Yours may have arrived in 1635 but others may have arrived before then and it just may not have been documented. Basques were fishing off the coast of Canada long before it was settled, and I strongly believe that Cotes were among them.

When using Wikipedia as a source, please, only use it as a starting point for your real research.Information in Wikipedia is only "user added" and therefore should not be used as a true resource. I have found many times, the information displayed was inaccurate. People posting their information are only putting what they know and sometimes it can be wrong. It is also set up so that another user can edit the existing information, so it may change from day to day.

Again thank you for responding to my question. I will continue my research on the Cote name beyond 1600 and post it here when I find out more.
