My Great Grandfather was H P Townsend (1827-1896), said to be a cousin to James Townsend (1815-1916). Since I posted last I checked the the 1850 TX Census & found Susan CUper, 38yrs, born in VA with Da Eveline age 17 born in VA & son Geo age 6 born in Mo.They were living in Navarro Co, TX. [A John Cupee received a Land Title in Hill Co in 1856; Hill Co had been part of Navarro Co].This matches with the ages & birth places on the 1860 Bastrop Co, TX census for Susan Cuper, age 50 born in VA with son Geo age 16 born in MO. James Townsend & 2 daughters are living with Susan.Next door is M. B. Highsmith age 32 born in Mo and Francis Highsmith, age 28, born in VA.
In 1870 I find James Townsend & Da Sarah is Bastrop Co, TX but I do not find Susan Cupee or George. I think some of the census pages are missing.
In 1880 Walker Co, TX M. B. Highsmith, 52 & Frances E. Highsmith 46, b in VA; also W. H. Kennedy 27 and Fannie (Townsend) Kennedy age 24 and their four children.
I can not find where Francis Eveline Cupee Highsmith died; one place show 1922 but I didn't find her grave at Bastrop with the Highsmiths & James Townsend.
I think that Susan ? Cupee was a younger sister to James's mother, Anna, born in Va abt 1796 or an older sister of James. But all James's siblings seem to have been born in TN.
