My great great grandmother was Kathryn Crace Hale. She was born in 1866 in KY (not sure where). Her mother was Lethann Howard (b. 1849 in KY - at least that's what was reported on the Census).Lethann Howard married Noah Crace on 2/1/1866 and they had six children (that I know of).
My aunts have been insisting that their grandmother (Kathryn) was half Blackfoot or Sioux indian and that her mother (Lethann) was full indian; I have not been able to coroborrate that.
But tonight my aunt told me that the story is that Lethann was traded by her indian father to William Howard for food on one of the death marches! This is the family....
William Howard, b.1827 in Floyd, KY married Katharina Helton who was born in 1825 in VA
I only know of two children, although I'm sure there were more - Lethann and Purlina.
Lethan is the Indian baby who was supposedly traded to William Howard for food.
If anyone has any information to confirm or dispute this, please let me know.
