The "Three Brothers" story is about as common as claims of royal blood or indian ancestry in genealogy. Let me be kind to you- it is bunk.

No one landed in New York.

At most there were two groups, but most beleive that there was only one group who came over. Apparently, Craighead was never a big family in Scotland, or if it was, the records have not yet come down to us in the US.

They fled not in 1690 but circa 1670, from Edinburgh into Ulster. This the history in Jenine's book. I have never seen an original of this book but I have a photocopied version from many years ago and would be glad to share it. Contact me if you are interested.

Thomas & Margaret came to America in 1715 from Ireland. They landed not in NY, CT or VA, but in Boston. They preached in Freeport and then went to CT breifly before moving on to NJ & DE.

Another branch can trace back to (tentavily) Robert Craghead of Baltimore & Virginia. He had descendents who, yes, had plantations & slaves. (On the small side)

The most famous plantation/slave owner, however, was rev Alexander Craghead- who I am not descended from, by the way, who was from Thomas' line. His place was in NC, called Sugar Creek.
