I think you may have some luck if you contact St. Jerome's Church. 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke, Massachusetts - 01040 (413-532-6381.
Ms. Lynskey, who is in the rectory is so nice and sends runners out to the grave sites to get the information off the tombstones.I gave her several names and she knew them right away, even told me a few things about a recently deceased relative. She sent a wonderful typed two page letter listing the names, ages, death dates, birth dates, and funeral homes, repleat with phone numbers if availble. She had far more information than vital statistics.Vital's in Holyoke do not give much information, no informant and when you ask, they say it is all locked up in old files and they cannot get to it. They only charge $5.00 so it isa bargain. There is another cemetary, Calvary, but they did not do nearly as much as Ms. Lynskey.
The funeral home of choice seems to be Hobart's but they have an answering machine on a good part of the time and I got so much information from Ms. Lynskey that I never did connect with them as yet.
I also contacted the Loomis Retirement Home, where my ancestor resided. You can talk to the social worker and she did get into some files with a little persuasion and gave me the lead I needed to find two cousins.
