Dear Ruby, I am a descendant of William Creech (1786-1834) and Charity Pope (1784-1860) who were from Grayson County, Virginia and then went across the border to Ashe County, North Carolina for a time and in 1816 moved on to Indiana. I descend from William and Charity's first child, Martha Creech who was said to have been born in 1800 in Grayson County. You mentioned that William's parents have not been proven but thought to be William Creech(birth date uncertain) and Tryphena Perkins of Grayson County, Virginia. There is a "Granny Skritch" buried in Grayson County that is believed to be Tryphena.
Do you know if the William Creech just mentioned and Stephen Creech were related? Stephen was in Osburn's Militia in 1781 in Montgomery County, Virginia (the part later to become Grayson County). If Stephen Creech and William Creech were in the same area during the same time do you think they could have been brothers or father and son?
In an earlier posting on this message board, you stated "We can prove Stephen Creech/Screech/var. back to 1746 Chowan County, North Carolina, giving him a birth date of 1725 or earlier." Is this the same Stephen Creech who was in Osburn's Militia in 1781?
I am willing to look at original records to sort this out but if you have already gone over this material, I would love to have some guidance.
