Although I am not actively researching the Creed line of AIken/Edgefield/Graniteville I am interested in the research being done as I am of collateral descent. By chance I have noticed something I think needs to be published for anyone researching these lines.
In 1991 LCDR Elizabeth S. Denny of Camden, SC provided me with her research on her husband's line:
James Anderson Creed b.8Dec.1861 Edgefield SC died 3 January 1943 at Graniteville SC buried at Vaucluse Cemetary. His father James A. Creed - his mother Margarett Couch.
He married Emma Josephine Denny who was born 3 April 1857 in Edgefield Co.SC and she died 1 July 1952 in Graniteville SC buried Vaucluse Cemetary. her father was John William Denny and her mother was Sarah Ann Smith.
The children of these: Margaret Eugenia Creed b. 31 Aug 1880 d. 17 Oct 1965 m. Joe Rhodes, then David Atkins.
John Wilbur Creed b. 30 Aug. 1885, d.5 Feb 1953, m. Alice Gregory then Ethel May Brown.
Bernard Winford "Bud" Creed b. 17 July 1888, d. 24 Oct 1950 m. Vessie Cawley.
I have corresponded with other researchers on these lines - the most recent Walter B. Goss who provided the following:
James Anderson Creed (of Graniteville SC area) b. 22 Feb. 1860 , d. 27 June 1929 buried at the Langley Cemetary in Langely, SC. James is the son of William Creed and Martha Lybrand Creed. James Anderson Creed was married to America V. Spradley on 2 Dec. 1883. America V. Spradley was born 19 May 1868 and died in an auto accident 4 October 1924 in Glovervile. James Anderson Creed and America V. Spradley had the following children: Ernest Burdell Creed, George Hatcher Creed, Edward Homer Creed, James Cecil Creed and Victor Teague Creed. This family resides in the Gloverville SC area.
So - note that there are TWO James Anderson Creeds born at almost the same time and within very close geographic proximity. There may also be a third James Anderson Creed - the husband of Margaret Couch and father of James Anderson Creed born 8 December 1861.
