In the 1841 and 1851 UK census, there were several Creek children living with relatives. Some with grandparents and others with uncles/aunts.
The ages would be compatible with the theory that they were all brothers and sisters, whose parents had died. I am trying to track down these parents.
In 1841 Jane Creek b1830 and Francis Creek b1826 were with grandparents Francis & Elizabeth Hooper
Edward Creek b1834 was with William and Mary Chugg
In 1851 Edward Creek, b 1828 was a nephew with the Chuggs William was a servant in nearby Berrynarbor
If my theory is true, then for the names to work out Mary Chugg would have had to be born Mary Creek. Mary Creek’s brother would have married Francis Hooper’s daughter. Both parents must have died between 1835 and 1841
William named a son Francis – after an uncle? Edward’s grandson was Francis – after great-uncle?
The ONLY Creek death in Devon in the period 1837 to 1840 seems to be Frances Creek. Was she Frances Hooper? William called a daughter Frances.
Sarah Creek, niece was staying with Maria Creek in 1901. Maria was Francis Creek (b1826)'s widow.
