I hope someone can help me clear up the fine mess I have on my hands regarding my Creel line.
My g-gfthr was Jonathan Henley/Henry Creel, who married Lou Rena Griffith/Griffin.He was born AL 1857, and she was born AL 1861. On one census, he is shown as being Jonsettian Creel.Wonder where that came from?!
My grandmother, Mary Elizabeth "Bettie" Creel was born in Tate Co MS 3 Sept 1882.She was their second child.
I had always been told that Jonathan's father was Nedham Andrew Creel md. Mollie Merreal Moore.Reportedly, Mollie died prior to the Civil War, and Nedham died during the Civil War, and Jonathan and his two brothers were reared by the Grandfather Moore.
I now believe that Jonathan's father was George Washington Creel who died in 1862 or 1863, and who married Mary Amantha Moore.I believe he had a brother named Needham Andrew, and they became confused with each other through the years.George W. had a brother named William J., and a copy of G.W.'s Civil War record contains information on this William Jackson as well.Needham Andrew married Millie Merrill, so the names are there - just not in the right places.
G.W.'s siblings were Ruth, Andrew Jackson, Benjamin Franklin, Sarah, Isaac Shelby, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Martha and William J.I think their father may have been Joshua Creel, who married Ruth Dodson.Joshua was born about 1763 in Farquier Co VA.After that, almost everything is in Bibb Co. AL, though Joshua died in Jefferson Co AL, as did Ruth Dodson Creel.
To make matters worse, the Creels and the Dodsons married in and out and all around throughout the earlier history of these families. It makes my head spin to try to figure all of them out!
Is anyone else researching this confusing situation? If so, I'd REALLY appreciate hearing from you.
