Cabarrus Co. Miller & Cress families
Looking for information on Moses Miller, b. 25 May 1815, and his 1st wife, Mary Lovina "Polly" Cress, b. 28 Apr 1820, m. 05 Mar 1840, all in Cabarrus Co., NC. Moses and Polly were living in Cabarrus Co. with 5 of their first 6 children during the 1850 census. The sixth child, Delphina Jane, is buried in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Concord.
I believe that Moses was the son of Jacob Miller (1786-1852) and Catherine Dry (1785-aft. 1850), and grandson of George Jacob Miller (1748-1840). Both Jacob and George Jacob also are buried at St. John's.
I also believe that Polly Cress was the daughter of Daniel Melanchton Cress and Catherine Ludwig Cress, both of whom likewise are buried at St. John's. I am looking for additional data to either prove or disprove the foregoing possibilities.
Moses and Polly moved first to MS, and then a year or so later they moved again and settled in the small town of Moro, Hampton TWP, Monroe (later Lee) Co., AR, all between 1853-1858. Polly died there in Moro on 04 Nov 1859 and is buried in the old Miller family cemetery in Moro along with her husband Moses, who died 11 Feb 1882.
About the same time that Moses and Polly moved to Moro, Jacob Cress and his wife Susannah Barringer Cress (m. 02 May 1847, Cabarrus Co.), as well as Harris Biles and his wife Nancy Urey Biles (m. 01 Aug 1853, Cabarrus Co.), also arrived in Moro from Cabarrus County. Harris had been living with Jacob Miller the younger, listed above, in Cabarrus Co. during the 1850 census. I believe Jacob Cress was Polly Cress Miller's younger brother, and I believe Jacob and Susannah accompanied Moses and Polly on the journey through MS and then to AR. Harris and Nancy appear to have moved directly from NC to AR. These two families and the family of Moses Miller were living within a stone's throw of one another in Moro in 1860.
Moses Miller and his 2nd wife Nancy McBride, b. Anson Co., NC 07 Dec 1839, were my 2nd great grandparents. Any insight into the lives of these people will be much appreciated.
