Catherine:William Calvin Criner served as an officer with the 27th Al Infantry-"New Market Rebels" during the War Between the States. According to family tradition he died at he end of the war, while enroute to his home at New Market. His wife is buried in the Rigney Family Cemetery near Maysville, Ala. I am one of many family family members who assist with the maintance and preservation of the Mount Paran Campground Cemetery at New Market. (originally known as Graveyard Hill). Isaac Criner, his wife and mother are buried there. This cemetery is on the Alabama Historical Register. A few years ago, one of the members of a local Confederate Heritage group ordered a Veterans Adminsistration Marker for Wm Calvin Criner...We have temporarily placed William's marker inside the Criner Family plot at Mount Paran until we can arrange to move it to Rigney Cemetery. We will place the marker beside his wife's gravesite, once we locate the Rigney Cemetery. There is a death date on the marker. (I'll copy it for you next time I visit the cemetery and post it here for you.) Have you viewed Wm Calvin Criner's Confederate records? That would be of interest to you, as he along with other members of the Isaac Criner Family served with honor!
