See posting 858 for Robert. Briefly, there were two brothers. Robert Crockett, a miller, of Mecklenburg Co, NC and Giles Co, TN married Rachel Kerr. Robert was the father of one son, Archibald, and six daughters. He was in Mecklenburg Co, NC by 1765. By 1810 he was in Giles Co, TN.
David, whose wife was Elizabeth, went to GA around 1786 where he died ca 1830 leaving some Bibb Co, GA land to nephew Archibald who was residing in Giles Co, TN when he sold it. David appears to have left no children. See below.
I believe that Robert and David were sons of one Archibald Crockett who lived in Lancaster Co, PA during the years Robert and David would have been youngsters. It is not far-fetched to imagine that Robert named his first (only) son after his own father. But this is only speculation. Here are the few clues.
Archibald Crockat got a warrant on 23 Oct 1746 for 50 acres in Mount Joy Twp, Lancaster Co PA. The Rev John Roan's account book (page 17) shows Archibald Crocket a member at Derry, making payments from 3 March 1745/46--22 Aug 1751. He was taxed in 1751. It is not known whether he left PA and if so where he went. Many Pennsylvanians moved down the Great Wagon Road to VA and Rowan Co, NC in the 1750s and 1760s, and some on down into Mecklenburg Co.
Archibald Crockett's neighbors in PA, including several nearby families appear to have been members at Derry. Connected warrant maps of Mount Joy Twp show the Archibald Crockett land in the northern part of Lancaster Co, PA. In modern terms, it was near where Lebanon, Dauphin, and Lancaster Co's meet, perhaps within 10 miles of Derry and four of Elizabethtown. Some of the families who were Archibald's neighbors in PA were Robert and David's neighbors in Mecklenburg Co NC.
Here is the connection:
David Crockett can be found in Georgia after he left Mecklenburg Co NC. Wilkes Co, GA, formed 1777, was a large area originally. By 1800, land could have been in Wilkes, Greene, Oglethorpe, Elbert, Lincoln, or Warren. Greene Co was formed 1786. By 1800, Greene had lost land to Oglethorpe and Hancock (formed 1793). Shoulderbone Creek, where David owned some land, today is in Hancock Co, GA, near the present Greene Co and Putnam Co's boundaries.
