DNA Message to the Descendants of William Crockett and Nancy Asher
I have recently noted on both www.ancestry.com and www.rootsweb.ancestry.com that there are many researchers and/or direct descendants of William Crockett and Nancy Asher who are still linking our Crockett line to that of David Crockett the Elder who was the grandfather of Davy Crockett of Alamo fame. My late father, Stanley Theodore Crockett, had his DNA tested back in 2004 as did two others of the line of William Crockett and Nancy Asher. This test proved that we are not blood kin to the line of Davy Crockett. There were two different lines of the sons of William Crockett tested so there can be no doubt the DNA is accurate for our line. The line of Asher Crockett and the line of William Perry Crockett were represented in the DNA testing.
I find it hard to believe that people who post their family research on the above sites do not take note of what is said on this Crockett surname Genforum board. The DNA results were posted years ago on the FTDNA webpage for our Crockett line. These family files that list us as kin to Davy Crockett are incorrect and need to be fixed. Also, there is not one shred of proof that our ancestor was William Crockett who married Catherine Hawkins. All we know is that our William Crockett was born c. 1783 in North Carolina and that he died in Cass County, IN in 1858.
