I just noticed your message. My apologies for not answering in a more timely manner. The Eppler cousin provided his/this family information. It appears it came from Bessie Buchanan Smith as is stated below.
"John Montgomery in some histories is referred to as Captain and in others as Colonel. It is as a descendant of John and Ann Agnes Crockett Montgomery that Bessie Buchanan Smith holds her membership as a Daughter of the American Revolution, and her records show that John Montgomery was a Captain in the American Army during the Revolutionary War. Putman's History of Middle Tennessee refers to him as Colonel John Montgomery, pages 211-215. "Colonel John Montgomery is with Colonel Clark on the Holston River soon after the taking of Fort Vincennes, February 25, 1779, by Clark." The End of this statement."
I did a little research last year on some of the Crockett/Steele descendants who came to Young County, TX or Graham, TX and Stephens County, TX or the Wayland area which is in North Central Texas. A Steele married a Robertson and family ancestors appear to lead back to Samuel Crockett and Esther Thompson descendants.I say "appear" because I only have partial documentation . The Hood County,TX McPherson family(mine), one of whom married into the Robertson family, has been documented.
I noticed the McPherson surname mentioned in a post of Mr. Maring and hope to find the time soon to delve further into his information as well.
When I have more time I intend to dig out the Eppler/Thomas book to see what it says about John Montgomery who was a neighbor of John Eppler in VA..
You, Mr. Maring and Montgomerys in general have heightened interest in the Deleware, Pennsylvania and Virginia Montgomery families.
Thank you for posting.
