I am a 5th great grandson of James Crow and Hannah (via daughter Eliz Crow Kirk).
Altho I havent ruled it out, I dont think James was a son of James Crow and Grace Denson.
My main reason is that in the 1880 Census, his daughter Mary Crow Hardin, reported that her father was born in Scotland.Unfortunately, altho Mary had 8 siblings, she was the only one alive for the 1880 census.
Now that I made my case, however thin, above, I will give two rebuttals to my own statement.
1.Mary Hardin's age varied dramatically from one census to the next, to the point that her credibility is suspect in other categories as well, such as her father's birthplace.
2.The DNA from 22112 matches extremely well with the DNA of 4 descendants of James Crow (Grace Denson)
12/12, 25/25, 37/37 and 35/37.
So my James Crow (Hannah Black) is definitely related to James and Grace Denson, but I just dont think its father/son.Maybe a nephew.
Misc.I dont think there is a reliable birth year for James (Hannah).I have seen about 1757, but thats only an estimate.
