Hi Suzie
William Crowne was my ancestor, i'm descended from his son John (c.1641-1712)
From what i read he was a colonel under Cromwell and was granted Arcadia by him in the 1650s, his wife was Agnes Mackworth (descended from Lord Dudley, Roger Mortimer,Henry Percy, Thomas Clifford and Eleanor Plantagenet the granddaughter of Edward III).
Later he would lose Nova Scotia to the French, John returned to England to talk to the king.
I have been researching William's ancestors as well, based on the website www.familysearch.com, he was born in London around 1617, the son of John and Joan Crowne.
He was baptised in Downham, Cambridge in 1623 and died on Christmas eve 1682 at Boston, Mass.
There is a Rowland Crowne (1570-1630) listed, he lived in Soham and was married to Elizabeth Bowtel. It's possible he was William's grandfather as he's one of the few Crownes living in the area.
There are also many Crownes and Crowns in Norfolk where my family come from
Hope this helps
Nick
P.S. how far back have you got? I'm interested in finding out a bit more about my ancestors
N
