Re: Ancestors and descendants of William Crown
A few corrections. William may have been born earlier than 1617, however there's a baptism record on familysearch dated 1623. William served the Earl of Arundel, accompanying him to Germany in the 1630s and later colonising land in Nova Scotia. During the Civil War he was a colonel under Cromwell, later he was a magistrate in Shropshire and a Rouge Dragon Pursuivant during the reign of Charles II. According to an article on Jstor William was in his 75th year when he died in 1682, meaning he was born around 1608. William and Agnes had at least 3 children: John, Agnes and Henry, who acted as executor after William's death.
John Crowne was born in London and died there, later buried at St Giles's church. He lived in Nova Scotia until he was about 20 in 1660 when he came to England with his father having finished study at Yale and after his father's land in the New World was lost to the French. John wrote plays for Charles II but after the king died John was impoverished. In a 1745 article from the Gentleman's Magazine the narrator recalls drinking with him.Records of donations given to him by Queen Anne shows he was still alive in 1705.
It's likely Elias was also born in London, neither his marriage certificate nor the birth certificate of his son Richard mention his birthplace.
