I accessed the Social Security Death Index (ancestry.com) and your dad is listed (6/18/46-5/23/00).You can write them for a copy of his application for Social Security, which would give his family background. They also list another MARSHALL CRUTE.Could that be HIS father (11/26/1884-6/1968)?You should also get a FULL copy of your dad's marriage license. My grandmother's grandmother was PRUDENCE CRUTE (b. Oct. 1839).She lived and died in Richmond, VA.I've been researching her background for quite sometime. She had children that were sold away from her. Both she and her husband NELSON CRUTE are on the 1880 Federal census. If you are presently living in Richmond, there is info available to you at the State Library: census records, birth, marriage and death records (also tax and land records), and newspaper obituaries.Contact the funeral director that handled your dad's funeral.Let me know what you find out.
