Robert M. CRUTHERS b 1817 Ire>Iowa,USA
My gg-grandfather was Robert M. CRUTHERS b abt 1817 in Ireland. He was in Clinton Co., Iowa as early as 1839.He married Jemima McKEEN 1845 Clinton Co., Iowa.Their children were Matthew b 1848, Angus & Eulis (b abt 1849 & died as infants?), Caroline, Agnis, John, Adam William CARRUTHERS b 1853 (my line), James, Samuel, Robert.
I have a letter dated 1849 from a friend in Ireland to Robert where it mentions some of his brothers & sisters names. There was mention of a brother, Matthew who "left Rockford & was going out to America", A son of Matthew, John "was gone to sea and now trading on the Mississippi", Matthew's daughter, Mary who "married a John Patterson and has gone out to America this Spring", Mention of brothers, Charles, James & John all still in Ireland, A brother, William, "still living in Belfast".The letter refers to the "great failure of the potato crop some years back" and "that all who are able are emigrating to one place or another but there are thousands still remaining who are almost starving many have actually died of hunger so that an additional tax is about to be levied on the north to support the south and west". This person asks Robert's advice on "Going out to America".
Any other CRUTHERS/CROTHERS/CARRUTHERS from this line?
