Joseph Nathaniel Cullingworth, Richmond, VA
My name is Charlotte Sandquist Phillips. My great-great grandmother, Eliza McMinn Ellison was sister to Cordelia Jones McMinn who married Joseph Nathaniel Cullingworth in Richmond, VA on March 16, 1864 (per records I found at some point but do not know source). When Eliza's husband died in 1889, Eliza and her three children moved into their home.Eliza's oldest daughter, Martha Brown Ellison, attended Johns Hopkins University
School of Nursing, class of 1905, in order to take care of her Uncle Joe.My grandmother, Elizabeth Webb Boswell Smith, saved EVERYTHING, related to family. We have a handwritten copy of the wills of both Joseph Nathaniel and Cordelia Jones.I have photographs of both of them from an album kept by Eliza. There is also a Bible enscribed on the cover, "C. J. Cullingworth."
It would appear that their son, Lindsay, was stillborn or died shortly after birth. His grave as that of his parents is in Hollywood Cemetary in Richmond, VA. My great-grandparents and grandparents are buried there and my own parents plan to join them. The Lindsay McMinn listed in the 1920 census as a border in the home of Stanley Gardner was the son of John Augustus McMinn & Elizabeth H. Ellett, Cordelia's oldest brother.
Joseph Nathaniel was a 1840 graduate of the University of Virginia and a very successful businessman (tobacco) in Richmond. He died 7-14-1911.
