Sorry, Susan, and no, Bill I am not an expert. I had that one coming, Bill, and my apologies, Susan.
A friend mailed me deeds from MD and the second packet arrived today, with more questions. I don't have the answers and have been working this puzzle for years. Susan was gratious, and I appreciate her willingness to help.
As I said, I am puzzled. I also got the Kreb report in the mail, and it is a real doozy! It's going to take some time to untangle it. AND I'm not sure I am up to the job. I have not located an 1860 Federal Census, a cousin in Canada had been tackling that chore.
I note there is an Ann M. and Emanuel Custer on this 1860 deed.
I have only had it a half hour so haven't sorted all the pieces. As I said, "I'm puzzled."
The deed I'm looking at right now is V.18, pg. 613 1860. if you would like to reference it. The land identifies with "Lily of the Valley".
Names included are "John and Mary Custer, with grantor, untoCatherine Ann Stark, Ludlow Stark, Michael Custer, William Custer, Sarah Jane Custer, Ann M. Custer and Emanuel Custer. This is my grandfather's great grandfather, and I've been puzzling on it qute a while.
