Hi Angie!
I have been trying to formulate my thoughts so I can be more cogent about all this so I hope I don't confuse you and myself.
Let me start by giving you a little background on the research I have come up with.I found some info on Sarah Mary Belanger on a death cert for my gg aunt.Only it was spelled Blangia. That took a good while to figure out.My GGgrandmother Harriet had always told everyone that she was born in Cedar Grove Schuyler Cty Illinois. There was no Cedar Grove that I could find but thinking about where the children were born led me to Indiana where in Franklin County I found Sarah and Joseph.Starting at the 1840 PA census I found Joseph and his 1st wife with5 children living with he and his wife.I went looking in Pa as Martha, Joseph's daughter by first wife had said that she was born in Pa.I find the family in East Pike Run Washington County Pa.After 1840 sometime, Harriet has to have died as by the 1850 Franklin county Marriage index Joseph has remarried Sarah Mary Belanger, who I believe is of the French Canadian Belanger's but have not been able to place as of yet.I can not find them on a census in Franklin County in 1850, just the marriage index.By1860 after exhausting all known variations on the spelling of Dant I found Joseph in Schuyler County Illinois under the name of Dance, with his daughter Martha Dant Meisner Williams Riggs.Martha has married 3 times. On the 1860 is found Sarah, Marion Francis, Rebecca A,, Rachel Harriet, (my GGgrandmother), and son Moses J.All are found in Schuyler County Brooklyn twp., Illinois. On the 1870 Illinois Census Schuyler County Camden twp., post off. Mayland, Joseph and family are now living.Joseph's wife Sarah is enumerated as is Rebecca.Joseph's children by Harriet, Martha, Jonathan Francis, poss., George, and Poss., Charles are not in Schuyler Cty that I can find.Sometime before 1880 Sarah Mary his 2nd wife has died.I believe that she is buried somewhere in Schuyler Cty and have been on that website searching cemeteries to try and find her but as of 2 years ago not all cemeteries had been updated.Marion Francis Henry Dant is found on the 1880 Menard County all twp., Dist#131 living with wife, Elizabeth Anna McHaley. They were married as you may know 1/23/1878 in Schuyler County Illinois.Rebecca and Michael Shannon are also in Menard County as I can find Michael on the 1880 Menard census listed above but Rebecca has died prior to the census and can be found on the 1880 Menard County Mortality Schedule, she has died of consumption, Phthisis Pulmonalis. Here's the interesting part.Michael Shannon hasnow remarried to my gg aunt Martha Louise McKinney Stevens.Martha Louise is sister to George Owen McKinnney who married Rachel Harriet Dant.Michael and Martha Louise Mckinney Stevens and Michael were married 5/1/1880 in Menard County .From census info and Birth records in Menard County I have been able to glean a little info on Michael, that he was born around 1845-1851 and in Connecticutt. As far as the birthyear for Marion Francis Dant, he is on census' 1860,and 1880 with a birth year of about 1852 making him the child of Sarah and Joseph. As far as the adoption of Arthur Shannon goes I believe that according to the 1880 Menard County census he is enumerated as suchandthis very well could be Irish Grove but I have it listed as Dist#131.I think I will close for now as this may have been too much all at once for you to sort out.I am sorry if I have been confusing, not very good at getting my thoughts straight these days and even worse at expressing my thoughts!Write me ifI have confused youand I will try to undo the damage!
Toni
