Darke County, Ohio bears General William Darke's name.A General and revolutionary war hero not to mention a close personal friend of George Washington's.I've a copy of a couple of letters between the two that I found at the smithsonian's website.
Now... I have some good news.Today I was reading my Mother's autographed copy of; "The Kith and Kin Of The Darke-Dark Clan In America 1680-1973 Compiled and edited by Mary Eugenia DeGroat" dated 11/94.My mother says she was VERY old back in '94 so she may not be with us any longer but if not, her fine work and her memory lives on with us, her kith and kin.
My mother got her copy of the book by writing to her at that address seen at the bottom of this post and they even talked on the phone so good luck all you Darke/Dark researchers. *S*
Below I've typed the index out to give you an idea of the books content, followed by the last 4 paragraphs of the foreward. Please feel free to mail me if I can help further?
Good things-Edward J. Darke

"...Information as to the family data, etc.,
used herein is believed to be reliable but
no claim is made that it is absolutely
authentic or completely accurate.
There are many records yet to be researched
in Pennsylvania, the Virginia's and North
Carolina on the earlier Darke's; and many
records have been destroyed by fire.
This work is dedicated to each and everyone
who has given of his time and talent to help
make a dream a reality, and especially to my
husband, who has spent many an hour accomp-
anying me on trips.

With best wishes to you all, I am
Sincerely your kith and kin,
