I suspect your line is the major line of DARLINGTONS discussed in Gilbert Cope's book mentioned below.I am interested in learning more about connections of a Darlington family of CHESTER COUNTY that is heavily intermarried with the IRWIN family of formerly of East Caln Township (1700s) of CHESTER COUNTY. It is plausible that it was all one Darlington family at some point in the 1600s or 1700s.Below are a couple sample interconnections of my IRWINS and known Darlingtons.
Theophilus Iriwn and his wife are buried at Brandywine Manor Presbyterian Cemetery in Chester County. His grave marker gives the date of death and his age as 85.This means Theophilous Irwin Sr. was about age 10 in 1720.He was a property owner in East Caln Township and is listed in the 1790 Census. Her children: Theophilous, Jr. (died 1804, the oldest), Elizabeth (175__- 1845) who married John Darlington (1756-1833, both buried at Brandywine Manor)and Jane, John and Samuel Irwin.BELOW is an earlier and SECOND-- IRWIN-DARLINGTON conenction.
Joseph Darlington(said to have been a lieutenant is British Army). In 1715,he is shown as a single freeman in Aston Township. In 1718, JOSEPH DARLINGTON is shown as a taxable land owner in both Goshen and Williston Township. He was a landowner in 1737,in West Nantmeal Township (later Caln Township) of 250 acres on the west branch of Brandywine Creek, in Chester County.Letters of Administration for his estate were issued to his wife, Mary, dated28 FEB 1748/9.SEE:[ TheDarlingtonFamily,by Gilbert Cope, privately printed, West Chester, Pennsylvania, 1900, pages 497-8.]No division of the Joseph Darlington estate was made. The Darlington family persisted in Chester County. On 18 MAR 1788, thedaughter, Mary wife of Samuel White petitioned the Chester County court or a division of the estate.HE MARRIED:
Mary Irwin emigrated. it is said from County Antrim, Northern Ireland to America about 1720, along with her brother,George Irwin and other brothers and sisters. She had a daughter: Grace(1722-1783), a son Robert Darlington,a daughter Mary Darlington who married Samuel Whiteand Joseph Darlington (said to have died 1757)and a daughter, Elizabeth Darlington who may have died young.
