Mr. yeager, here is some info I sent to Mr. Rose the other day. I will have more information available after the weekend.
~Hi Bill, the only name I recognize is Jose Pereira. My father's family has its roots mainly in Conceicao and Flamengos. My father's father,Pedro Silveira daRosa, was a shoemaker "en cima da lomba" as they say and was born about 1896. He married his first cousin Maria da Luz, who was born in 1898. They produced 7 offspring, 2 girls and 5 boys. Gabriela, Senhorinha, Mario, Gabriel, Jaime, Eduardo, and my father, the youngest of them, Angelo Pedro daRosa. Senhorinha died as a baby, and Gabriela was the only member of this family to remain on Faial until her death about 5 or 6 years ago. My father was a fireman in the Capelinhos era and helped to rescue the many stubborn people who did not want to leave their homes up near the volcano. He and all of his brothers emigrated to the United States and Canada in the 50s and 60s and primarily live in Massachusetts, and Ontario. There are many cousins in this same branch that also live here in Massachusetts and Rhode Island and California and Canada.Their children are of my generation. My grandfather Pedro had brothers as well. Right now, without the information in front of me, I can only remember Fransisco and Antonio. But I will look into this a little more and provide you with more detailed information if you wish. I know that one of my grandfather's brothers settled in California. I hope any of this has been helpful. -Sincerely, Diane Nolan --
