Re: Darracott in South Carolina

Hi Katie.I still have not found Addie Darracott but I do have some information on one branch of my Darracotts that moved to Abbeville Dist., S.C.These are the only Darracotts I know of in SC.The John Darracott below was brother of my gr.gr. grandfather, James B. Darracott.The family moved to Wilkes Co., GA from Louisa Co., VA in the 1780s.

John Darracott, b. in Hanover Co., VA, d. ca. 1849, Abbeville Dist, S.C.He was son of Thomas & Elizabeth (Bickley) Darracott and was apparently named for his paternal grandfather, Capt. John Darracott of Hanover Co., VA.

He married Rebecca Wingfield (b. July 12, 1765, Hanover (or Louisa) Co., VA, daughter of John and Frances Oliver (Buck) Wingfield.

Children:
1.Garland Darracott, b., ?, d. ca. 1829, Abbeville Dist., S.C.Married Mary Ann Weaver, August 18, 1820, Wilkes Co., GA.His will was dated Nov. 1, 1821 in Wilkes Co. but probated June 16, 1829 in Abbeville Dist., S.C.Mentioned in the will were his wife Mary Ann, and two minor children, Francis and Rebecca Darracott.

2.Herbert Darracott was living in Abbeville Dist., S.C. in 1849 when he was administrator of his father's estate.Married Floride B. Turnbull, daughter of John and Jane Turnbull of Abbeville Dist.[Estate of John Turnbull lists Floride as his daughter and mentions "Herbert Darracot and Floride B. Darracot his wife" (ca. 1825).]

3.Frances (Fanny) Darracott.Married Moses O. Talman.

4.Rebecca Darracott.Married Patrick Gillen.

5.Eliza Jane Darracott.Married Thomas Jones.

6.Georgianna Darracott. ??

7.Louisa Darracott.Married Henry Hester.Estate of Henry Hester administered December 23, 1844, Abbeville Dist., by his wife Louisa, Herbert Darracott and Moses O. Talman.Settlement was made Jan. 15, 1846.Present:Louisa Hester, widow, Samuel, Thos., Robt. Hester by consent, Jas. Norwood who married Sarah Ann Hester by consent, Jas. Norwood who married Sarah Ann Hester.Louisa Hester was guardian of Rebecca T., Elijah and John H. Hester, minors.[NOTE:It appears that Henry Hester was married twice and some of the above-mentioned were children by the first wife.]
