Are you two descended from Joshua Dart who came to Genesee Co., MI in the late 1830's? He had at least three sons, only one of whom settled permanently in Michigan: Edward S. Dart. Edward lost his left leg in the Civil War but lived to a ripe old age. His wife was Nancy Bowles, daughter of Josiah Bowles. Edward and Nancy had three children who survived to adulthood: Asa, Oliver, and Sarah Ann (Annie.) Asa is described in one official record as a "drunken, worthless fellow incapable of raising any crop other than one of disturbance."

Joshua Dart and his son Edward were born in New London, CT, and probably lived in NY for a bit before settling in Michigan.
