Re: Joshua Dart
No, I have nothing new on Nimrod. I don't even know where he died or is buried. I've seen the Probate Record of which you speak:
Probate Court Records
1871 Nimrod Dart dec. in Perry County, Arkansas. Joseph T. Dart age20; Ann Dart Age 17; (want to be declared of age. Heirs of Nimrod Dart).
While at an Arkansas library, I found this blurb:
Entry for N.W. DART of Cypress Mills, Perry Co, AR as “planters of cotton and/or sugar in Arkansas”, pg 537 of Gardner’s Planters Directory of LA, AR, MS and TX”
I firmly believe he had a brother named Moses. They purchased land next to each other in 1844, then this entry for 1846:
JOHNSON CO, ARK, Land Deed, Book H214:
Grantor: Williams, Nimrod to Moses Dart, Feb 25, 1846, date of filing-Feb 25, 1858.
Parts: NE2 NE4, Sec 21, Twp 9, Range 24, 80 acres
(looks like Nimrod gave half his land to Moses - maybe his brother??)
I don't understand the grant date of 1846, but filing date of 1858...?!
There is an entry for a Moses DART who died October 1859. That seems to be when Nimrod disappears from the scene. His wife and children are on the 1860 census alone, the May 1861 Mary turns up remarried to William Prewit (a neighbor), who has a 12 year old blind son.
Finally, I made a leap and put this scenario together with the help of another researcher, James Price:
I believe Nimrod’s parents were probably Thomas D. DART and Rachel IIAMS. Thomas and Rachel had children names Moses, Joseph, Amos, & Sinah.Nimrod named 2 children Sina & Joseph; he named a son and daughter ‘Thomas’ and ‘Rachel’ [after his parents?]; and another son ‘William’ - after his 2 uncles on each side of the family.
Well, I don't know how much of this you already have, but that's the lot of it that might be new. I'm still stonewalled on who his parents really were, and who his siblings were.
I don't suppose you've come up with any new insights?
