Sheila, was interested to read the thread you started.I have an Elizabeth Dawe but she was born about 1817 in the Liskeard district. Her father was Walter - the family lived in Linkinhorne area for decades. As far as I knowElizabeth had a brother, James, and two sisters, Grace and Ann - I don't know if there were other siblings.I believe she did leave Cornwall for Devon, but not sure. She eventually went to Wales with her daughter, Anne, and son-in-law, Richard Jollow who was from Devon.
I've researched James line (b. 1841) since his son, Richard, is my ancestor. But I have some information on the others. Including Elizabeth. I've been in touch with one of her descendents who lives in the States. A quick check of her file shows a number of Elizabeth's (b.1817) descendents were also named Elizabeth, however the surnames were different. Some lived in St. Cleer which I didn't realize is only a little above Liskeard.
I'll be in Cornwall (Truro) and the Liskeard district September 2008. I'm sure I'll find information about another Dawe family in the area, and will make a note and pass it on. We may all be related.
My Dawe line was in the Linkinhorne area before 1778 and was there until abt. 1869. They were copper miners also, so I hope to visit a mine. I'll only be spending three days in the Liskeard area, but will be in Cornwall eleven days. I'm excited.
