I wonder if this John Dean might have been my maybe- 4x great grandfather, John Dean, born in Philipsburg, Westchester Co Ny in 1740?What caught my attention was the mention of a Clapp; one of the wives of "my maybe" John Dean was Phebe Clapp.
This John Dean was a Quaker, as was my for-sure ggg grandfather, Daniel Dean, and his wife, Abigail Carpenter, born in Scarsdale, Westchester, to a Quaker family with roots in Rhode Island.
I've been searching for the parents of my Daniel Dean for several years, and have eliminated most of the possibilities found on Ancestry.com.
My Daniel Dean lived in Cornwall, Orange Co, from at least his marriage, in 1804; he died in 1815 and his will can be found online now. There were a John Dean and a Phebe Dean living in Cornwall, Orange, NY; John was found in the 1790 census, and Phebe in another book found online, which mentioned her serving on a Quaker committee.
Perhaps the reason I haven't been able to find any solid death date/info for John after 1790 is because he was in Canada?!
