Robert DeCuir, I just noticed your posting on 7/01 from the Decuir Genealogy forum regarding Omer Decuir and Lelia DeLaCroix Decuir. (listed below):
My ggf Omer DeCuir was born in France and with his wife, Lela DeLaCroix, they may have lived in Baton Rouge sometime around 1900. Their children Clemonce (Clem)(b 12/13/05), Hilda (b 1/24/02), Omer, Ernest, and Sidney or Sidney Peter(b. 2/11/98 Bordeaux(?), France) appear to have lived in Baton Rouge before going to NY (sometime before 1918). They came to LA because of a cousin that lived there possible a butcher or involved in food products. Lela DeLaCroix DeCuir is supposedly buried in LA, possibly Baton Rouge. Does anyone know about this period of their lives or their relatives/ancestors in LA or France? Sidney DeCuir fought with the US Army in Mexico and U.S Navy around WWI.
What you have described sounds much like a connection in my family.I am descended from the Joseph Decuir (1752-1822) and Francoise Beaulieu (c1768 - 1812) family of Pointe Coupee Parish, La. Their son was Leufroy Decuir m 1813 Julie Porche. Of their children, the family connection which I believe you may be describing is with the two sons: 1)Leon Decuir m Livie Darensbourg, after her death 1867, m Celeste Amar; and, 2)Pierre Numa Decuir m Amelina Villere.Leon Decuir and Celeste Amar's daughter Lelia Decuir Lejeune 1872-1974 was my great grandmother. She married Charles Lejeune 1898 in Pointe Coupee Parish, LA.Of the children of Pierre Numa and Amelina Villere, a son Omer DeCuir was married to Lelia LaCroix. My great grandmother's cousin Omer DeCuir and my great grandfather Charles LeJeune went into business together in New Roads, La where they operated a saloon.Prior to that my great grandfather Charles Lejeune was a butcher who sold the meat around Louisiana and could have very well been in business with Omer for that venture as well.My great grandparents moved from Pointe Coupee, the Chenal in the early 1900s and lived in New Orleans until 1916 when they moved to Dayton, OH.
We have pictures from my great grandmother/grandfather and great great aunt.Within this album are photos of Omer Decuir, Lelia Lacroix and their family, which looks like it was taken on a front stoop from a house in New Orleans c early 1900s.Perhaps the easiest way to determine if we are talking about the same family is for me to forward one of the pictures to you. Please let me know if you are interested, or if you have any further information or questions.
Looking forward to hearing from you,Julie Eshelman-Lee
