Re: Dedmon/Dedman/ Deadman / Deedman
I have no listings of "Deedman's" in my records, but that does not mean it dosen't tie in!
It is said, that all the various spellings of the name are derived from "Debenham".
One has to keep an open mind as to this!
Lots of people could not "Read or Write" in the old days, therefore, the ones that recorded information, did so with their knowledge of spelling. Be it poorly, or by guess, andspelling was not that good!!
Using the sounds they heard, think of how a "Scotchman" would say your name?
What about Irishmen? Frenchmen? Englishmen?
Now try and spell it like it sounds?
Most of my family was from Debenham Parish, Deben Parish, & Dedham Parish, in the Dioces of Norwich, County Norfolk & Suffolk.
Some from Marsh Parish, in Huntingdon.
There is lots of info in still to be found in England. However, due to W.W.II, lots was lost also.
Hope this helps?
Do you have other spellings?
My name is "Dedmon", it started in 1776, "Dedman" an "Deadman" to 1674 when they came to the USA. They were "Dedham's" to 1450's, "Debnam's" to 1300's. "Debenam's" to 1258,then "Debenham's"
Nice to hear from you. Lets keep in touch? Maybe we can help each other somehow?
We can still swap files if you want?
