Ruby Jane Deeken, 91, Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center, Jefferson City. Mrs. Deeken was born September 7, 1911, in Big Piney, the daughter of Emmett George Coogan and wife Nancy Louise Lane Coogan. She was united in marriage February 22, 1933, in Argyle, to William John Deeken Sr. who died October 18, 1974. Mrs. Deeken received her education at Big Piney Grade School, Big Piney. She both lived and worked at St. Mary's Hospital for seven years as a young girl and later served as a cook and bookkeeper from 1950 to 1973. Mrs. Deeken was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Ladies Sodality, St. Peter Sewing Circle, St. Mary's Health Center Auxiliary, Krafti Kru, Ceramic Club and Canasta Club at Hamilton Towers Senior Housing. She was also a volunteer with St. Peter School Cafeteria while her children attended the school. Mrs. Deeken was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by two sons, Robert E. Deeken Sr. and William J. "Bill" Deeken Jr., both of Jefferson City; one daughter, Margaret M. Kroeger, Jefferson City; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Georgia Starke, Jefferson City; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 12, at St. Peter Catholic Church, Jefferson City, with the Rev. Donald W. Lammers officiating. Internment was in the Resurrection Cemetary. Memorials to the St. Peter Church Building Fund, the Senior Nutrition Center or to the Special Olympics are preferred. The Deeken family was served by Dulle-Trimble Funeral Hom, Jefferson City.
