Irish de Lacy descendants
My name is Darryl Trimm of Covington, Georgia, USA.A cousin of mine did a lot of research several years ago and came to the conclusion that our family name, Trimm, wasspelled Trim by my great-great grandfater, James Marcus Trim, and several generations prior to that the family was de Lacy from Trim, Ireland. It's believed that two brothers James and John de Lacey immigrated to American in the 1700's and changed their family name to Trim after their birthplace.I did some research on my own and have found that Hugh de Lacy, a descendant of the Norman invaders, was sent to Ireland in 1169 by the English King John II to build castle there establishing English authority.Hugh started construction in 1172 but fell out of favor with the English king because he suspected Hugh would make himself king of Ireland. An army was sent to destroy the castle. In 1175 the english did just that.Shortly afterwards Hugh started again and eventually he and his descendants completed it.I am really curious to know if my ancestors, James and John de Lacy from Trim are descendants of Hugh de Lacy and how many of my distant relatives still live there.
